Privacy Policy
The short version: your tennis and pickleball sessions stay on your own iPhone and Apple Watch. The app works fully without an account. If you choose to sign in for rankings and friends, a small public profile is stored online, described below. We don't sell data, track you, or show ads.
What the app collects and where it stays
- Session data. Strokes, points, scores, notes and the opponent names you enter are stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch. They move from the watch to your phone over Apple's built-in watch connection, never through our servers.
- Motion data. While a session runs, the app reads your Apple Watch's (or optional racket sensor's) motion sensors to detect strokes. Raw readings are processed on the device and not saved; only the result is kept.
- Camera. The AI coaches (serve, groundstrokes, footwork, warm-up, Shadow Rally) analyse your body position live, on your iPhone. No video or images are recorded, saved or uploaded; only the resulting scores and tips are kept.
- AirPods motion. If you use the AirPods tracker, the app reads your AirPods' head-motion sensors to estimate swings, serves and split steps. Motion is processed on your iPhone and never uploaded; only the resulting counts and scores are kept with your session.
- Heart rate and calories. With your permission, the Apple Watch app reads your heart rate and active calories during a session and saves the average, maximum and total with that session on your devices. This health data is never sent to our servers, to iCloud backup, to rankings, or to anyone else.
- Microphone and speech (voice scoring, optional). If you turn on voice scoring, the app listens for scoring words during a match and recognises them on your iPhone with Apple's on-device speech recognition. Audio is not recorded, saved or uploaded.
- Match video (optional). If you analyse a recorded match video, the frames are processed on your iPhone to detect strokes. The video stays in your library; only the resulting stroke list and scores are kept.
- AI coach. Coach answers, debriefs and weekly plans are generated on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence when available; your questions and match data never leave the device for this.
- Location (optional). The court finder uses your location, with your permission and only while the app is open, to search Apple Maps for courts near you and to suggest the saved court you're playing at. Your location is not stored or uploaded; only the courts you choose to save are kept on your iPhone.
- Calendar (optional). With your permission, the Play Planner adds the sessions you schedule to your calendar. The app only writes events; it does not read your calendar.
- Body & fitness. Readiness check-ins, pain checks, effort ratings and fitness sessions you log are stored on your iPhone. They are not medical records, are never sent to our servers and are never used for anything other than showing you your own trends.
- Official ratings (optional). You can link your UTR, NTRP, WTN, DUPR or other official rating by entering your rating and profile link yourself. The app never signs in to those services. Your player IDs, links and rating history stay on your iPhone; only the rating system and current value are shown on your public profile if you use accounts.
- Apple Health. With your permission, sessions are saved to Apple Health as workouts. The app doesn't read other health data. You can change this at any time in the Health app.
Accounts, rankings and friends (optional)
If you sign in with Apple or Google to use rankings, friends and challenges:
- What we store: a user ID; the first name you sign in with (shown publicly, and you can change it); your email address as provided by Apple or Google (used only to manage your sign-in, never shown to other players or used for marketing); the emoji avatar you pick; a friend code; and headline stats — your RallyLines ratings, Shadow Rally best, best AI serve score and sessions this week. Your friend list, challenges you send or receive (with their scores), players you block and reports you file are also stored.
- Clubs and invites: if you create or join a club, other signed-in players can see the club's name, sport, city and emoji (public clubs can be found by city) and, within the club, your name, avatar, headline stats, ladder results and challenge progress. Invite links carry only your friend code. We count how many friends accept your invites to unlock cosmetic badges; nothing else about them is stored.
- Who can see it: other signed-in players can see your name, avatar, friend code and headline stats in rankings and friend lists. Challenges are visible only to the two players involved. Your email, block list and reports are never shown to other players.
- Where it's stored: on Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) in the United States, which processes it on our behalf. See Firebase's privacy information.
- Deleting it: Settings → Account → Delete account removes your profile, stats, friendships, challenges and block list from our servers, deletes your sign-in account and revokes the app's Sign in with Apple access. Sessions on your phone are kept. You can also email us to ask for deletion.
- Moderation: players can report names or behaviour. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours; offending names are removed and accounts can be suspended.
iCloud Backup (optional)
If you turn on iCloud Backup in Settings, RallyLines stores a copy of your sessions (scores, points, strokes, notes and tags) in your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. Only you can access it — we can't see it — and health data such as heart rate or calories is never included. You can turn backup off at any time and delete the backup in the iOS Settings app under your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → RallyLines.
What we never do
- No advertising, tracking or analytics SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties, other than Firebase storing account data on our behalf as described above.
- No background location, no storing or uploading of your location, and no access to your contacts.
- Data from Apple Health is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared, and never stored in iCloud by us, following Apple's HealthKit rules.
Purchases
RallyLines Pro is billed through Apple. We never receive your payment details. Apple tells the app whether a subscription is active so it can unlock features.
Website waitlist
If you join the waitlist on this website, we collect your email address and use it only to send beta invites and launch news. Our form provider, Formspree, stores it on our behalf. You can unsubscribe from any email or ask us to delete your address.
Deleting your data
Delete individual sessions in the iPhone app, or delete the app to remove all RallyLines data from your devices. Workouts saved to Apple Health can be removed in the Health app. Account data is deleted as described above.
Children
RallyLines is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. A parent or guardian who believes a child has given us information can contact us to have it removed.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with an updated date, and significant changes are called out in the app's release notes.
